I apologize, Make up enclosed!

masthead
I was multi-tasking this morning and mistakenly sent an incorrect email confirmation to you!  I am sending you a make-up!  A Pep Talk on how to identify a child in the goal of power.

Again I apologize for the mistake.

Identify Power

Today's PEP Talk will give you some ideas for how to identify when your child is in the goal of power.

Identify power

When you feel:
Provoked
Challenged
Threatened
Defeated
Then you know your child's goal is:
Power

If you (the parent) react by:
  • fighting
  • giving in
  • thinking "You can't get away with it" or "I'll make you"
  • wanting to be right
And the child's response is:

to intensify behavior
defiant compliance
feels she has won when parent is upset
passive power

The mistaken belief behind the child's misbehavior is:

I belong only when I'm boss or in control, or proving no one can boss me.  "You can't make me."
