Bounty Get Pregnant Pregnancy Baby Toddler Family Time Family Time

 Dear Miss Runnynose,

From planning a family to living with one, Bounty gives you the support you need to keep everything running smoothly. We'll be with you every step of the way. Here's what you need to know this week...

The big day

It's time to start preparing for the birth.

You

As you reach the end of your second trimester, it's a good idea to start thinking about the kind of birth you want. Plus, we talked to mums and medical experts about caesareans. Watch our short film to find out what they said.

Do you know what maternity pay you're entitled to or how much leave you can take? Check our handy guide to your maternity rights. We've also got information on paternity pay.

Your baby

Your baby measures around 35cm from their head to their bottom. He or she is forming sleeping patterns now and will be more active at certain times of the day. But you should still feel regular movements - if not, give your midwife or doctor a call.

Having a family can sometimes seem like an exercise in paperwork - suddenly it's a whole new world of appointments, scans, forms, and prescriptions. And that's just during pregnancy! Then there's registering the birth, Child Benefit, immunisations...

So to help you stay one step ahead, we've created a free online calendar that lets you enter your baby's due date and the ages of your children so the organiser will automatically populate with need-to-know dates and add in events and appointments and select to receive email reminders for them a month, a week or a day before. You can drag and drop quick events like midwife appointments, antenatal classes, birthdays and days out from the menu into the calendar and print off our checklists. Try it out today.

Something in your pregnancy that’s niggling you?

Dear Teething Runny
Having been a nurse, I know lots of things change in a pregnant woman’s body. And while most mums-to-be are often worried that what’s happening to them is odd or embarrassing, usually whatever’s niggling them is very common indeed – though that doesn’t make it any less of a pain! Remember, we’re here if you need advice.

Are all my aches, pains and itches normal?

It’s not unusual for mums-to-be to feel lots of physical niggles at this stage of pregnancy as their baby and bump become bigger. You may find that you have a painful stretching feeling around your middle at this stage. It’s common to feel the ligaments around your uterus stretching as they support the growing weight. Try and keep moving and you may feel the pain lessens. If the pain is severe, or you are concerned for any reason, it’s best to contact your midwife.

Another common problem that mums-to-be can find a little embarrassing is having a vaginal fungal infection known as thrush. The main symptoms are:

An itching or burning sensation in or around your vagina
Soreness during sex or when you wee
A thick, white vaginal discharge like cottage cheese

Thrush is actually a very common side effect of pregnancy and the good news is it can be treated and won't harm your baby during pregnancy. However, it can be passed on during labour, so make sure you get treatment from your midwife or doctor before you give birth.

Health and nutrition tip
If you’ve got swollen feet and ankles, have a gentle foot massage, or try some cooling leg gel and put it in the fridge before you use it. Otherwise, I always used to find that a flannel soaked in cold water and wrung out was wonderfully soothing too.
Christine, pregnancy advisor and mum
Right now, your baby is about 36cm long and weighs approximately 1lb 7oz But they’re about to embark on a major growth spurt, so you should feel their movements every day!
