Dear Teething Runny
Does it seem like a lifetime ago that your baby was just a gurgly, smiley bundle in your arms? Now they’re doing their best to wriggle all over the place! So, if you haven’t already, it may be time to take a look around your house and make sure it’s safe and ready for your baby to crawl around in. Don’t forget, our team has many years of parenting tips to share, so just get in touch if you need any advice.

How can I make my home safe for my baby?

As your baby becomes increasingly active, they’re going to need lots of space to explore and move around in. But it’s all too easy for little fingers to get trapped and delicate heads to get bumped. Thankfully, your baby has some great natural padding in the form of a lovely, soft bottom! But there are lots of things you can do to make your home safer, too.

To help you work out what areas of the home need baby-proofing, try crawling around on your hands and knees! There are lots of practical gadgets you can buy to help keep your baby safe, like plug covers, cupboard catches and stair gates. But getting a baby’s eye view of the world will help you spot potential hazards such as low pointed corners, easy-to-open cupboards, easy-to-reach ornaments, uneven floor surfaces and uncovered electrical sockets.

The odd bump and scrape is inevitable, but short of wrapping your baby in cotton wool there’s not much more you can do. Try to relax and give your baby enough freedom to explore and have fun under your watchful eye. Learning to fall down, but get straight back up again is a valuable life lesson!

Health & nutrition
By now, your baby might well be getting to grips with solid foods and new flavours, but their nutritional needs are still very different from an adult’s; their tummy is still five times smaller than yours, and their developing system can’t yet cope with salty or sugary foods either. So try and choose foods specially made for babies - like our Cow & Gate Baby Balance range. Your baby will soon be ready for the next stage, from 10 months+, with yummy jars like Oriental Chicken and Scrummy Tuna Penne, as well as our tasty new Little Steamed meals, which are packed with up to 8 different vegetables.
